GEZE UK Backs Extreme Racing

The GEZE Tunnel 2K International, an intense test of daring and endurance through Newcastle's Tyne Tunnel, was won by South African Ernst van Dyk who conquered the extreme 2km course in just over four minutes, reaching 46mph on the downhill stretch.

The race started with a 1km downhill start, which saw the competitors smash through the Tunnel's 30mph hour speed limit to confront the gruelling last uphill 1km to the finish line.

Entrants Mickey Bushell, a Paralympic hope from the West Midlands and UK favourite Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson were also presented with brand new race suits for the event, which forms part of NewcastleGateshead's Festivals and Events Programme.

GEZE UK's sales and marketing director Jules Quested-Williams, who was at the race, said: "This race is truly unique and it was exhilarating from start to finish. GEZE UK's expertise in automatic and assisted doors and windows makes access and life, easier for disabled people, so we felt this was an excellent opportunity to show our support for extraordinary athletes at a world-class event."

Organiser David Burdus, an ex-road wheelchair racer said: "The GEZE Tunnel 2K International is a modern classic. We have the world's best athletes on a unique course. Achieving speeds of nearly 50mph this is wheelchair racing at the extreme and definitely not for the faint hearted.
